Preparation

  • Combine cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice) in a medium saucepan.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in orange zest if desired.
  • Transfer the cranberry sauce to a bowl and let it cool to room temperature before serving or refrigerating.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of Grand Marnier during the last few minutes of cooking. This sauce can be made several days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
