Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Icing & Decoration

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 4-6 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring Halloween colors
  • Halloween sprinkles optional

Instructions
 

Baking the Cookies

  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
  • Cream softened butter and granulated sugartogether until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide the dough in half, flatten each into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into Halloween shapes.
  • Slightly space the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decorating the Cookies

  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth to make the icing.
  • Divide the icing into separate bowls and tint with Halloween food coloring.
  • Decorate cooled cookies with the colored icing and add sprinkles if desired.
  • Let the decorated cookies set completely before storing.

Notes
