  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Preparation

  • Whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, cornstarch, and sesame oil in a small bowl to create the stir-fry sauce.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Cooking

  • Add the sliced beef to the hot skillet and cook until browned on all sides, then remove it from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet, then add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp.
  • Return the beef to the skillet, add the minced ginger and garlic, and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour the stir-fry sauce over the beef and broccoli, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients.

Serving

  • Serve immediately over steamed rice and garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the beef in a tablespoon of soy sauce and a teaspoon of cornstarch for 15 minutes before cooking. Adjust the spice level by adding a pinch of red pepper flakes with the ginger and garlic.
