Equipment

  • Trowel
  • Watering can
  • Gardening gloves

Ingredients

Planting Supplies

  • 4 small Strawberry plants
  • 1 bag Potting mix
  • 1 bag Compost
  • 1 bag Mulch

Instructions

Planting

  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil for your strawberry plants. Dig holes slightly larger than the roots of your strawberry plants, spacing them about 12-18 inches apart.
  • Mix equal parts of potting mix and compost to enrich the soil. Carefully place each strawberry plant in a hole, ensuring the crown is at soil level, then backfill with the soil mixture.
  • Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots.
  • Apply a layer of mulch around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Care and Maintenance

  • Water your strawberry plants regularly, especially during dry periods, aiming for about 1 inch of water per week.
  • Fertilize every 3-4 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer according to package instructions.
  • Remove any runners (long stems with small plantlets) to encourage the main plant to produce more fruit.
  • Protect plants from pests and diseases by regularly inspecting them and using organic pest control methods if necessary.

Harvesting

  • Harvest strawberries when they are fully red and firm. Gently pluck them from the plant, leaving a small stem attached.
  • Enjoy your fresh strawberries immediately or store them in the refrigerator for a few days.

Notes

For best results, plant strawberries in early spring or late summer. Consider planting different varieties to extend your harvest season. Remember to protect young plants from frost with row covers if needed.
