Ingredients
  

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1.5 tsp dried basil
  • 0.5 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper

Cheese Mixture

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions; drain and rinse with cold water.
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until meat is browned; drain.

Assembly

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Arrange 6 lasagna noodles over sauce. Spread with half of the ricotta cheese mixture.
  • Top with a third of the mozzarella cheese and 1 cup meat sauce. Repeat layers, then top with remaining noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

For an extra cheesy lasagna, add a layer of provolone cheese. You can also add some vegetables like spinach or mushrooms to the meat sauce for added flavor and nutrients.
