Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and a soft dough forms.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  • Use Christmas-themed cookie cutters to cut out shapes and carefully transfer them to the prepared baking sheets.

Baking

  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decoration (Optional)

  • Once completely cool, decorate your cookies with royal icing, sprinkles, and other festive toppings.

Notes

For best results, make sure your butter is at room temperature before creaming. You can chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling to make it easier to work with. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
