  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 2 Puff pastry sheets
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 100 g Feta cheese crumbled
  • 1 Egg beaten
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat, then sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  • Stir in the tomato paste, salt, and pepper, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly, then mix in the crumbled feta cheese.
  • Lay one sheet of puff pastry in the prepared baking dish, pressing it to fit.
  • Spread the meat mixture evenly over the pastry.
  • Cover with the second sheet of puff pastry and seal the edges by crimping.
  • Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

Notes

Serve hot or warm. This kreatopita is excellent as a main course or a substantial snack. For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with a mixture of mushrooms and lentils and use vegetable broth instead of any meat-based stock during cooking.
