Equipment

  • Oven
  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Wire rack

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional additions

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Mixing

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar, then whisk until well combined.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if desired.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs, not wet batter.
  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter, as this can lead to tough brownies. For richer flavor, use good quality cocoa powder and chocolate. To achieve fudgier brownies, slightly underbake them. For cakey brownies, bake them a little longer until a toothpick comes out clean.
