Growing Instructions

  • Prepare your small terracotta pots or air fryer-safe containers by ensuring they have drainage holes.
  • Fill each pot with potting soil, leaving about an inch of space from the top.
  • Plant 2-3 mini onion sets or small onion bulbs per pot, with the pointed side facing up and just barely visible above the soil.
  • Lightly water the soil using a spray bottle until it is moist but not saturated.
  • Place the pots in your air fryer basket, ensuring there is enough space between them for air circulation.
  • Set your air fryer to its lowest temperature setting (usually around 180-200°F or 82-93°C) and "air fry" for 15 minutes to create a warm, humid environment.
  • After the initial air frying, turn off the air fryer and leave the pots inside for 45-60 minutes, with the lid slightly ajar to maintain warmth and humidity without cooking the onions.
  • Repeat steps 6 and 7 daily for about 1-2 weeks, or until the mini onions sprout and grow to your desired size; water lightly as needed to keep the soil moist.

Notes

This method is designed to provide a warm and humid environment, mimicking ideal growing conditions. The "air frying" step is not for cooking but for creating a gentle, consistent warmth. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent mold growth. Mini onions are typically ready to harvest when their green tops are 6-8 inches tall and the bulbs are about 1 inch in diameter.
