Caprese Salad Ingredients

  • 4 large beefsteak tomatoes
  • 1 pound fresh mozzarella cheese or burrata
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • sea salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash and slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  • Arrange them alternately on a large platter or individual plates with fresh basil leaves.
  • Drizzle generously with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze.
  • Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, then serve immediately.

Notes

For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season tomatoes. If fresh basil is unavailable, dried basil can be used but fresh is highly recommended. Burrata cheese can be used as a creamy alternative to fresh mozzarella.
