Ingredients
  

Breadstick Dough

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup Warm water
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture, then mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
  • Gently punch down the risen dough, then divide it into 5 equal portions.
  • Roll each portion into a breadstick shape, about 8-10 inches long, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve warm, optionally brushing with garlic butter for extra flavor.
