  • small bowl
  • whisk

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warm
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg beaten

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt, then mix well.
  • Add warm milk, melted butter, and the beaten egg to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Gradually add the remaining flour, one cup at a time, mixing after each addition until a shaggy dough forms.

Kneading and Rising

  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 15-20 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces, then shape each piece into a smooth ball.
  • Arrange the shaped rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between them.
  • Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 10 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water for the egg wash, then brush it over the risen rolls.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.

Notes

For extra soft rolls, brush with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
