  • Small bowl
  • Wire rack
  • Toothpick

Ingredients

For the Bars

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg

For the Cinnamon Swirl

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and egg until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Assembly and Baking

  • Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for the swirl.
  • Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over the batter in the pan.
  • Carefully dollop the remaining batter over the cinnamon mixture and gently spread it to cover.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Glaze and Serve

  • While the bars are cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Once the bars are completely cool, drizzle the glaze evenly over the top and allow it to set before cutting and serving.

Notes

For an extra touch of flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon swirl mixture. Make sure the bars are fully cooled before glazing, otherwise the glaze will melt right off!
