Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Medium bowl

Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • 2 large chicken breasts boneless, skinless
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

For the Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.75 cup milk plus more if needed

Instructions

Cooking Chicken

  • In a large pot, combine chicken breasts, chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the chicken is cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.

Prepare Dumpling Dough

  • While the chicken cooks, whisk together flour and baking powder in a medium bowl. Gradually add milk, mixing until a soft, sticky dough forms.

Shred Chicken and Drop Dumplings

  • Remove cooked chicken from the pot and shred it into bite-sized pieces; then, drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough directly into the simmering broth.

Cook Dumplings and Return Chicken

  • Cover the pot and cook the dumplings for 10-15 minutes, or until they are fluffy and cooked through, then stir the shredded chicken back into the pot.

Serve

  • Ladle the hot chicken and dumplings into bowls and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add chopped vegetables like carrots and celery to the broth with the chicken. Adjust the amount of milk in the dumpling dough to achieve a consistency that is easy to drop but not too runny.
