Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Oven-safe Baking Dish

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1 head Green Cabbage medium, chopped
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 14.5 oz Diced Tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh Parsley chopped

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grab a large oven-safe baking dish for this recipe.

Cooking the Beef and Cabbage

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and then add the chopped onion to the skillet, cooking until softened.
  • Stir in the chopped cabbage, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for about 10-15 minutes until the cabbage is tender.

Baking the Casserole

  • Pour the cabbage and beef mixture into your prepared baking dish and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is heated through.

Serving

  • Remove from the oven and let it stand for a few minutes before serving. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the other seasonings. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef for a leaner option.
