Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Whisk

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 lb chicken thighs boneless, skinless
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger grated
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels; this helps them brown nicely.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with a tablespoon of oil.
  • Add the chicken thighs to the hot skillet and sear for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken, bring it to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Remove the lid, increase the heat to medium, and continue to cook for 5-7 minutes, basting occasionally, until the sauce thickens and caramelizes.

Serving

  • Serve the caramelized soy chicken immediately with your preferred side dishes, such as rice or steamed vegetables.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can marinate the chicken in the sauce for at least 30 minutes, or even overnight, in the refrigerator. Adjust the sweetness and saltiness of the sauce to your liking by adding more honey/brown sugar or soy sauce respectively.
