  • 1-2 cups Substrate e.g., ADA aquasoil, inert sand
  • 3 small Live Plants e.g., Anubias nana petite, Java Moss, Bucephalandra
  • 1-2 Driftwood/Rocks small pieces for decor and biofilm

Shrimp

  • 6 units Dwarf Shrimp e.g., Cherry Shrimp, Crystal Red Shrimp

Instructions

Setup

  • Thoroughly rinse your glass bowl to remove any dust or impurities, then add the chosen substrate to the bottom, creating a slight slope from back to front.
  • Carefully place your live plants and decorative driftwood or rocks into the substrate, ensuring they are stable and arranged aesthetically.
  • Gently fill the bowl with dechlorinated water, pouring slowly to avoid disturbing the substrate and plants.

Cycling

  • Add a bacterial starter to the water as per product instructions to initiate the nitrogen cycle, which will convert harmful waste products into harmless nitrates.
  • Allow the bowl to cycle for 2-4 weeks, monitoring water parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates) regularly until ammonia and nitrites consistently read zero.
  • Perform a small water change of about 10-20% once the cycle is complete, replenishing with fresh dechlorinated water.

Introducing Shrimp

  • Float the bag containing your dwarf shrimp in the bowl for 15-20 minutes to equalize water temperature.
  • Slowly acclimate the shrimp to the bowl's water by adding small amounts of bowl water to their bag over an hour.
  • Gently release the shrimp into their new home, ensuring a smooth transition to minimize stress.

Notes

Maintain stable water parameters through regular small water changes and avoid overfeeding to ensure a healthy environment for your shrimp.
