  • 1 pair Gardening gloves
  • 1 Small trowel
  • 1 Watering can

Roasted Cabbage Steak Ingredients

  • 1 Cabbage medium head
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika

Instructions

Growing Cabbage

  • Choose a sunny spot in your garden or a large pot with good drainage to plant your cabbage seeds or starter plants.
  • Plant cabbage seeds about half an inch deep, or transplant starter plants, ensuring proper spacing of 18-24 inches between each plant.
  • Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, and fertilize every few weeks with a balanced vegetable fertilizer.
  • Monitor for pests like cabbage worms and use organic pest control methods if necessary, then harvest when the heads are firm and compact, usually 60-90 days after planting, by cutting at the base.

Preparing Roasted Cabbage Steaks

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Wash the cabbage thoroughly, remove any outer damaged leaves, then cut the cabbage into 1-inch thick "steaks" or rounds.
  • Place the cabbage steaks on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the cabbage steaks and season evenly with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Roast for 20-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the cabbage is tender and caramelized at the edges.

Notes

For best results, use fresh cabbage that is firm and heavy for its size. You can adjust the seasonings to your liking, adding chili powder for a kick or nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.
