Equipment

  • Pie Dish
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Paring Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Oven

Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 2 sheets store-bought pie crusts

Filling

  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare your pie dish. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice, tossing until the apples are evenly coated.

Assembly and Baking

  • Line your pie dish with one pie crust, then pour the apple mixture into it. Dot the top of the apple filling with the small pieces of butter, then top with the second pie crust. Crimp the edges to seal and cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for another 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Let the pie cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of allspice or cloves to the apple filling. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, you can cover the edges with foil. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
