  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate medium bowl, combine the apple cider, egg, and melted butter.

Combining and Baking

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix the batter.
  • Spoon the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the donuts are golden brown and spring back when lightly touched.

Topping

  • While the donuts are still warm, prepare the cinnamon sugar topping.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • Dip each warm donut into the melted butter, then immediately roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra boost of apple flavor, reduce the apple cider to 1/2 cup and add 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce to the wet ingredients. These donuts are best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
